The Japanese automaker, Nissan, is in the process of creating an advanced supercharged engine that will be matted to a hybrid powerplant for the forthcoming Nissan Leaf as well as other Nissan models.
The all new hybrid, which will hit showroom floors at dealerships like Coon Rapids Nissan in Coon Rapids, Minnesota soon, unites a supercharged 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine with CVT transmission, electric motor, and lithium-ion battery pack.
Official fuel economy will depend on each model, though the Japanese automaker "seems to have set out to build a system that is equal parts performance and fuel economy."1
Superchargers offer more baseline power than turbochargers. It is without a doubt that a supercharged hybrid system could distribute enormous amounts of low end torque, satisfying most of the anti-hybrid crowd.
Numerous reports have implied the new hybrid system will probably make it's first appearance in the next-gen Nissan Altima or Nissan Maxima, functioning with all engines that are between 2.0 and 3.5 liters, as well as with Nissan's performance V6.
